What is Spiritualism?

The simple answer is, Spiritualism is a religion. We also have our own religious philosophy.

The Spiritualists' National Union (SNU) is a registered charity that supports and unifies over 326 Spiritualist churches and centres throughout the United Kingdom. The primary object of the Spiritualists' National Union is to promote the advancement of the religion and religious philosophy of Spiritualism.  Our religious philosophy is based upon Seven Principles which were given to us so that mankind could develop an understanding of life and eternal life. We have accepted these principles as they provide an ethical and moral framework on how of live one's life.

These Seven Principles are:

  1. The Fatherhood of God - Spiritualists worship God
  2. The Brotherhood of Man -  We are all children of God and true brotherhood can bring about equality and peace for everyone. "He who serves others serves God."
  3. The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels - The Ministry of Angels brings enhanced wisdom to enlighten us and the world we live in. Angels are dedicated to the welfare of mankind, bringing inspiration, guidance and healing.
  4. The Continuous Existence of the Human Soul - Our spirit is the creative force of God and after physical death when the physical body is left behind, the soul continues to exist eternally.
  5. Personal Responsibility - Each of us have the ability to make decisions as we see fit. No other person can put right our own wrong doings.
  6. Compensation and Retribution Hereafter for all the Good and Evil Deeds done on Earth - Everything we do in this life is carried forward and has an effect in the next life.
  7. Eternal Progress Open to every Human Soul - Eternity does not begin at death, it is happening now. There will always be an opportunity to develop and move forward.
